Hoping for a dry Mashramani

If you're not in Guyana then, you may not be aware that we are still experiencing the December/January rains and, if you are in Guyana, you're probably cursing about it.

When you live in a country where it is summer all year round the seasonal rain is a blessing. However, its February and a just a few days away from Mashramani which has me worried.

You see, in Photography lighting is an essential element to a great photo, in fact, proper lighting is essential to any photo.

You see, in Photography lighting is an essential element to a great photo, in fact, proper lighting is essential to any photo. It doesn't matter if you own a disposable camera or one that cost more than what most people in a third world country make in a year, bad lighting equals bad photos, period!

Besides the influence of lighting in photography, sunshine is an essential element of any carnival celebration. Bright sunlight says hot and it also says Caribbean. Don't think so? Think about any magazine or television ad you saw for carnival in any country/island and try to remember if it looked like it was taken on a sunny or cloudy day. See my point?

Besides proper lighting, I also have to worry about the rain and all the camera gear I will have with me. If it rains Mash day I just can't risk damage to my gear but, at the same time, I know a lot of people overseas look forward to my photos and, I don't want to feel like a let down. I didn't take any photos for last year's Mashramani and I to this day I still regret it.

To say I am anxious for it to be Mashramani day and be out in the streets and, among the crowd taking photos it would be an understatement so. if I am unable to do so again this year to say I will be disappointed will also be an understatement.
Happy Mashramani everybody, be safe, have fun and, don't drink and drive. (yes I know if Guyanese people we talking bout)
